"Halla Tómasdóttir, Iceland's second female president, called for a world-wide one-day strike by women to demand an end to masculine authoritarianism and advance women's equality."
Morgan I agree. I have been trying to reach her office but I haven’t gotten a response yet. How about we all write, linking to this story, and call on her to come give us a live talk and set a date? We need to get going! Here is the email mailto:forseti@forseti.is
Annelise, we were in Beijing at the same time!! I was working for PW but I wrote about the conference for the Foreign Service Journal as someone living there at the time. Love that we connected today!
Oh yes. My language and relationship to some of these issues have evolved, but I have a women's education background (high school and college), and I live in Hawaii (25 years), and my ethnic roots are grounded in a patriarchal society that STILL doesn't put my name in the family tree, so ... !! 🤣
I was very young when I wrote that piece for the FSJ, and my more recent work includes Other Small Histories (Poetry Society of America), a collection of prose poems about the women in my matrilineal line, including my grandfather's three wives.

Was a date set? I say game on!

Yes, I will write today. Her leadership at The B Team and role in creating The Elders is a track record of moral authority.
When I posted a note about her speech on that day I got over 2000 responses. I truly think there would be energy for this.
This is about meeting the moment.
